Q: Where can I find dancers, dancing, and costumes in mainstream movies? A: Aziza Sa'id: Here's a fairly complete list...
Helen Funai Helen Funai, was also featured in "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum". She was the Asian bellydancer. Though when Richard Lester filmed the sequence, no full shots dancing are used of Miss Funai. Lester was (and is) a technical marvel when it comes to film editing & technique (he more or less invented the so called MTV style), but I've long wondered if indeed it is Miss Funai doing the actual dancing. -- Paul B For "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", it might be interesting to note that the character "Tintinabula" (a prostitute) gets turned down because her finger cymbals are too hard on the ear... -- Sherezzah "...looks like belly dancers on 'The Adventures of Sinbad,' which is broadcast on the cable channel TNT (not sure if it's only local to D.C.) [10 Mar 1997] at 9 p.m., ET..." --Zafirah Iman The legal heir to the throne of the Caliph, played by Jon Hall, is attacked and almost murdered by his evil brother, played by Leif Erickson, who seizes the throne. A dancing girl (Maria Montez) finds the wounded heir and nurses him back to health. They fall in love, and he sets off on a series of adventures accompanied by a trusted friend (Sabu), an aging Aladdin in search of his mislaid lamp (John Qualen), and a bragging, shiftless Sinbad in his declining years (Shemp Howard).

A Summer to Remember
The movie that I and several other dancers from the Salem, Ore.area were in was a made for TV movie named "A Summer to Remember" It was about a deaf boy and a orangutan that talked with sign language. We were in the circus scenes. There was a movie made in Oregon a few years ago that used local performers in it. I believe Gaylene of Gaylene's Boutique was in it, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the movie. I'm hoping if Gaylene sees this post she can provide the name and how much performance time was given to the performers. Also would be interested in hearing how this all came about, rehearsals, etc.

Adventures of Sinbad , The
TV shows Hercules, Xena, and Sinbad often feature snippets of ethnic, pseudo-, and maybe even real ME dance with interesting/colorful costuming. The snippets, though short, add nice touches of ethnicity, dance and color to the shows.

It seems that there was a short scene with a ME dancer in "She was in the background in a small, stuffy nightclub scene. The camera did focus on her a couple of times. This movie absolutely *stinks*, so I can't recommend it.
