Description
Jason & The Argonauts
(1963)
John Goldfarb, Please Come Home
Shirley MacLaine

(1965) With Shirley MacLaine, Peter Ustinov and Richard Crenna. "...takes place in the fictional country of Fauzia...and has extensive belly dancing scenes. Shirley even gets a lesson and performs. The movie is also very funny and quite entertaining." -- unknown
"John Goldfarb, Please Come Home" was very controversial at the time. The movie, a comedic farce, in general is about a bogus Middle Eastern football team along with Shirley McClane that beats Notre Dame in a football game. Notre Dame sued 20 Century Fox and the producers because they believed the movie made their school and football team look inept. Also the belly dancing scenes were considered somewhat racy at the time and I'm sure a few people got riled up about it. The "specialty dancers" were "real" belly dancers. It was just a goofy/fun movie with some great girls and everybody got all bent out of shape about it. Read more about the Lawsuit or read more about the Sports Illustrated cover -- Von Ehman
Jungle Book, The (live action)
There's a brief scene of a dancer in an Indian bazaar dancing rather like the Indian gypsies in Latcho Drom.
