Q: Where can I find dancers, dancing, and costumes in mainstream movies? A: Aziza Sa'id: Here's a fairly complete list...
Also in that scene, would the costume Princess Leia is forced into wearing at all being considered harem influenced or inspired (we're talking the "Hollywood Harem" image here)? -- Paul B PS-- Here is the Q&A I referred to from the book, "Truffaut/Hitchcock", p. 81: Truffaut: How did you plan on using bellydancing [in "Rich And Strange"]? Hitchcock: The reason I was interested in the bellydanc[er]is that I wanted to show the heroine looking at a navel that goes round and round and finally dissolves to a spiralike spinning motion. - Paul B "What makes the dancer's appearance noteworthy are the facts a.) she is dressed in a at-the-time-highly scandalous, midriff-baring cabaret costume and b.) she actually Med dances." - Paul

Return Of The Jedi
In the "Jabba The Hutt" sequence, Jabba watches an alien dancing girl perform. The dancer (the one who gets tossed into Jabba's monster pit) is supposedly an accomplished Med dancer, though I've never known what her name is.
Return of The Pink Panther
(1975) Featuring the incredibly funny Peter Sellers and also a terrific dancer. The dancer in the "Lugash" segment is terrific.
Rich And Strange
Alfed Hitchcock's 1936 thriller, features a fleeting scene of a dancer in a nightclub. Hitch once told Francois Truffaut the fascination he had with a bellydancer's navel -- and its cinematic potential. - Paul
Ride the High Country
(1962) This idyllic, elegiac--almost sentimental--Peckinpah movie features an extremely fast glance at a dancer of the late 19th century performing, presumably with a circus. Many have called this Peckinpah's best, but I am definitely a "Wild Bunch" man myself - Paul
Road to Morocco
Rita Christiani
(1942) Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Dorothy Lamour. Bob Hope-style road comedy.
Robe, The
Virginia Lee
Rollercoaster
A couple of short clips of a dancer on stage at a carnival. -- Aziza Sa'id
Romancing the Stone
(1984) As with "The China Syndrome", it would've been much more interesting to have the lead actress (in this case, the splendid Kathleen Turner) do the dancing, but one can't have everything.
Romany Trail, The - Pt 1 Gypsy Music into Africa
Documentary. The evolution and cultural history told thru the music and dance of the lands from India to Africa and the Middle East. Fabulous!
Romany Trail, The - Pt 2 Gypsy Music into Europe
Documentary. The evolution and cultural history told thru the music and dance of the lands from the Middle East to Europe. Fabulous!
Room To Rent
I just read a review in an English magazine for a new movie called Room To Rent..."Juliette Lewis as a glamourous, little-girl-lost pole dancer-type, about to be persuaded into a marriage of convenience with an Egyptian screenwriter/belly-dancing teacher (Said Taghmaoui)." The content sounds dubious, but I guess it sounds like there *might* be some dancing involved. -- Steph
