Q: Where can I find dancers, dancing, and costumes in mainstream movies? A: Aziza Sa'id: Here's a fairly complete list...
Movie Title
Dancer
Description
Ulysses
On Queen Omphale's island i believe there were costumed harem girl types and either this movie or an old Hercules movie, for dining entertainment there was a group choreographed, roll on roll, spin and kick harem girl dancing number, either in a huge cave or palace, but whenever i hear Tales of the Night Winds 6/8 cut, forget name of song, but the drums booming at start... i always think of choreographing one of these old dance scenes with a Hercules or Ulysses leaning on a long lounge chair eating grapes being fanned by serving girls :-) -- Amira
unknown
[unknown B&W movie or TV series, circa 1965 or prior] featuring a belly dancer dancing around a man fastened to a stone slab on a Mayan-looking temple top, before he ended up inside the temple in a room full of snakes
Up The Academy (Mad Magazine's Up The Academy)
(1980) Called "Mad Magazine's Up The Academy" upon its first release, this piece of trash features poor Ron Silver (who should've known better) as the villain/victim of its tasteless, (be-)lowbrow humor. One of its scenes features a girl who dresses in a harem costume, and hands a whip to Silver demanding, "Whip me!" I'll spare you the rest of scene's unfunny, moronic humor (it gets worse, believe me.) In fairness, Mad wisely had its name removed from the title not long after the movie's release. -- Paul B
