* Classical Instruments *
| Rabih Abou-Khalil
This is the most interesting and wonderful stuff! Rabih uses classical Arabic themes, rhythms and instruments along with modern western instrumentation - some pieces have brass instruments - and creates works that are full of Arabic feeling and yet not exactly so. Each CD is a different musical experiment, approaching the soul of Arabic sound from a different direction. Some of this has a very theatrical sound, some is compellingly earthy, some dark, some joyful. Not all of this is danceable, and indeed is probably not created for dance at all, but it is strong and passionate stuff and I have used some pieces with powerful results. |

Music For The Arabian Dulcimer

![]() Belly Dance Instrumentals Chalf Hassan & Emad Sayyeh |
This is a really remarkable work. Some pieces are kanoon only, some kanoon and percussion. There are three really beautiful Samai's (classical 10/8), my favorite, Nihavent Saz Semai, has a bit of the flavor of renaissance lute music. Truly a virtuoso set of performances by Kartel. Good liner notes. |
