* Turkish *
| Omar Faruk Tekbilek
One of my favorite musicians! |
Fabulous new music! |
|
![]() Gypsy Fire Turkish style, energetic, lots of clarinet, good male vocals, nice brisk tempos. If you like the Turkish style of music popular with dancers in the '70s, you'll love this! Nice version of Rampi Rampi (9/8 Kashlimar)! Great quality. If you've been around the dance scene for even a little while, you'll recognize all of these.
|
![]() Dance Into Eternity Strong and passionate. Not all songs are suitable for dancing, Call To Prayer is religous piece and should not be used. |
![]() Suleyman the Magnificent with Brian Keene Music from the movie. Many nice (and also short) taksims on a variety of instruments. This one has a very traditional feel, but also some non-traditional acoustic instrumentation and a variety of rhythms. Beautifully done, very soulful. A really nice Samai (10/8), a very fast 7/8 and an even faster 9/8. |
![]() Fire Dance with Brian Keene This is soulful and passionate music. Most of it is excellent for dancing, but some tracks have religious significance for Moslems and should not be used for dancing (Call to Prayer, Spirit of the Ancestors) |
![]() Mystical Garden with Brian Keene This is well named - very mystical, lyrical, soulful music. A nice version of the folkdance Laz (7/8), and my favorite funky mizmar Saidi Shashkin. Some taksims and a nice Egyptian dance style piece. |
![]() Best of the Sultans Some of the best music from Tekbilek with the Sultans. All danceable stuff. Most excellent! |
![]() Fata Morgana with Michael Askill |
![]() Beyond the Sky with Brian Keene Some new age sound, some traditional sound, some Spanish flavor, almost jazz guitar, too. Good rhythms and taksims, a bit out of the ordinary, some of it mystical, all of it beautiful. Nice drum solo in Selemet. Nice version of Siseler (Shishelai). |

Turkish instrumentals. Lots of clarinet and kanoon 16 songs - four 9/8s and one 6/8. Some liner notes. An old one, but a good one if you like Turkish. |
This is a tremendously soulful, powerful and moving sound track - many of the pieces are very dance-worthy and useful. Strong passionate stuff. |

Rolling Stone: "...ISTANBUL 1925 resurrects some of the classic cabaret singing and playing of that era--which includes some outrageous jazzlike clarinet solos--all from ancient 78s that were mastered digitally from the original metal parts, and they have a sound clarity that makes it seem as if they had arrived, magically, out of a time machine..." If you are interested in the historical aspect of our music, you will enjoy this. Some tracks are a bit scratchy, and all have the thinner sound of old recordings, but I really liked this set of music. |
